I always try to bring my camera on every vacation I go on! New places and different sceneries are so inspiring to me. Sometimes, I simply can’t resist “working” on my time away. Once I secured my flight plans to Turks and Caicos, I knew I would have to make room in my bag for some camera gear and figure out how to find someone to hop in front of my camera for a few minutes while I was there!
Social media is such a powerful tool to make plans and communicate across the world! This, of course, includes trying to plan a photoshoot in a completely foreign island that I’ve never been to before. Lol.
I ended up posting on a Turks & Caicos travel Facebook page to look for anyone who may have fun modeling for me at some point during my trip. Due to a few feisty commenters, I quickly learned that there are various business licenses and permits I must apply for to “work” on the islands. This is totally understandable, but different than how things are done at the beaches back home. I was never really looking to get paid for this shoot, but I deleted my post anyway because I got nervous about getting in trouble!!
Luckily, lovely Tiara noticed the post before I deleted it and volunteered! We used this shoot to celebrate her upcoming graduation and accomplishments with school. My friend Kate, who lives in Turks, helped us pick out a nice, secluded beach location kind of in-between where Tiara and I were staying. The water and the sand is unique in color and texture, but the most exciting change of scenery was the different rock structures that lined the beach! I feel like the rocks added so much interest and depth to the photos. I also love the contrast of Tiara’s outfit against the cooler tones of the beach background.
Enjoy!
